Launched in 1957 the 'Nuova' (new) Fiat 500 was the company's successor to the 500 Topolino and as with other European manufacturers like Volkswagens Beetle and the BMC Mini, the 500 opened up a new world of cheap and practical motoring for style loving Italians. With 2 doors, a genuine 4 seater, fold back soft top and a 479cc (500cc nominal) 2 cylinder rear engine (hence the car's name) the 500 proved to be hugely successful and is considered one of the first purpose designed city cars.

During the course of production the 500 saw a small number of styling and mechanical changes and from 1968-72; the 500L 'Lusso' ran along side the lower specification 500F. In Lusso trim the 500L can be identified by the exterior styling having chrome plastic trims covering the roof drip rails, a redesign of the hubcaps, different bumpers and different badges. Continuing with the 'luxury' theme the interior of the 500L differed by have new dash design , 2 spoke black steering wheel, the door cars featured the same pleated leatherette upholstery as used on the seats, a number of useful storage bins and the floor was now covered in carpet instead of rubber mats.

Absolute Classic Cars are delighted to offer this beautiful Fiat 500L / Lusso. A rarer U.K delivered RHD model, this 500L was delivered to its first owner, a Miss M Farren on the 3rd Oct 1971 and is finished Giallo Positano with black Lusso spec interior.  Showing an indicated and highly credible 22k miles (supported by her original service book and MOTs) this diminutive 500 is a fantastic example, the paint work has a wonderful deep glossy shine, the chrome, rubbers, lens etc are all in great condition and with the addition of her chrome and leather strapped rear picnic / luggage rack and hamper basket this Fiat 500 really stands out from the crowd. What's really important and often overlooked is that underside is also in top class condition, we've seen a large number of recently restored Italian imports hiding horror stories of rotten floor pans and so should a prospective buyer wish, we're more than happy to offer access to ramp so that you can see the underside is a nice as the top.

Mechanically the car 500 is in first class order. The two cylinder engine starts readily needing only a small amount of choke on the quirky choke / start levers and with the benefit of having a synchromesh gearbox and an original U.K RHD example, its smiles all the way as you simply can't help but fall in love while driving with the soft top folded back and the engine singing behind you. A review of her history file confirms that in recent years the car has benefited from having her front axles fully refurbished (work carried out by the Italian car specialist Middle Barton garaged), an upgraded disc brake conversion, she sports a set of immaculate Lesmo alloy wheels and prior to being sold the car will be serviced and come with 12months MOT, so that this 500 is ready to be enjoy for miles of trouble free motoring.

Despite its 'small on the outside' stature the Fiat 500 is a marvel of packaging and offers a surprising amount of interior space. The seats, carpets and door cards are unmarked and all correct to the Lusso model, the eagle eyed will spot that she's sporting a MOMO steering wheel and in order to protect the original loop-pile carpet we've fitted a top quality set of mats from Ricambo International.

With an interesting history too, she was used in the filming of the Top Gear - Top 10 Greatest cars episode and has also been used as a promo car for the Italian Pesto / Pasta sauce company Scala, this fabulous Fiat 500 can't help but make you smile, offering fun for all the family and if you're game you can just about squeeze 5 of you inside .... though we can't promise you'll get out easily!

Earlier this year (2018) I had the pleasure of doing business with Mark and Carl at Absolute Classic Cars (ACC) as they had an amazingly rare low mileage 1989 Porsche 911 SSE Coupe for sale, or as I have come to call her, 'The Mona Lisa'.

Knowing how rare this model is and seeing a few examples for sale at Porsche specialists / established classic dealers around the UK I took my time to see all the cars in market place and after visiting the ACC premises a few times, talking to them at length at how they would prepare the car, what they could do for me and getting a 'feel' for them and their business I knew Absolute Classic Cars were the right people.

In the weeks leading up to delivery I spoke with Mark on an almost daily basis; updates on the detailed Porsche specialist service they'd arranged, refurbishment of the Fuchs alloys to factory 'as new' condition, fitting new Continental tyres, refurbishment of the fan/housing, detailed wax-oil and so. When she was finally ready Mark and Carl delivered the car in person within their fully enclosed trailer and once unloaded, joining other classics in my collection they then covered her with a tailored car cover they arranged for me.

A few days after the delivery I was advised by my insurance company that due to the value of the car would need a Tracker fitted and on phoning Mark for some advise, he suggested that they might be able to help further. Less than 24hrs later they had arranged for an approved specialist to make the journey from Lincoln to my home (250 mile round trip) and I could rest easy knowing that everything was sorted.

As an classic car enthusiast, many years the senior of Mark and Carl, I have meet many dealers in my time and for the most they are just that, dealers.
