Introduced in 1982 the Porsche 944 shared the same platform as the 924, but with far greater interior styling, its more muscular body with flared wheel arches (similar to the 924 Carrera GT) and a wider choice of engines all of which were developed in house, therefore making the 944 a true Porsche.
Porsche continued to develop the car throughout its life and had intended to carry on with major changes in a 944 S3 model, but develops eventually saw the 944 being replaced by the 968 model. With a both Coupe and Cabriolet body types available and engines in both naturally aspirated or Turbo the 944 saw many changes and the numbers built reflected the cars popularity.
Supplied new to AFN Porsche (the original Porsche concessionaire before Porsche Cars GB Ltd) this Porsche 944 was specified to a high standard and comes with the following specification:
- 3.0litre 211bhp 4 cylinder
- 5 Speed Manual Gearbox
- Finished in Cobalt Metallic Blue
- Electric Hood - recently replaced and in top condition.
- Electric Adjustable Sports Seats - Leather interior in immaculate condition.
- Adjustable Steering Wheel
- Electric Mirrors / Windows
- Headlamp Washers
- Porsche 16” Design 90 Alloys - recently refurbished
- Side Mouldings
- Original supplied with Blaupunkt Symphony stereo - now JVC with iPod connectivity
- Body integrated Fog Lights
The exterior of the 944 is in excellent condition and the metallic Cobalt Blue presents really well. Panel gaps are consistent around the car, lenses are free from damage, the original D90 alloys have been refurbished and the recently fitted hood is in top condition with a clear rear screen and her original blue tonneau stored in the boot.
Unlike many 944’s this S2 Cabriolet was originally ordered with figure hugging Sports Seats with the option-sheet being ticked further with the original owner specifying a full blue and electrically adjusted interior. The seats are immaculate, free from any scuffing and they provide the perfect driving position for either spirited driving or a relaxed country cruise. Interior electrics all work, as to be expected with a Porsche, she has a new set of over mats and is fitted with a JVC CD / Stereo headhunt, with phone connectivity.
Mechanically the 944 is in great condition. She has just over 109k miles (averaging less than 5k per annum) and starts on the button, the big 4 cylinder settling down nicely and showing great oil pressure. Out on the open road the torque of the 3litre engine comes into its own and original reports suggest the 3litre could reach 0-60 in 7sec and a top speed of 150mph, figures that would concern many a Turbo owner!
The 944 is a great car to drive and has obviously been cosseted and well cared for by previous owners. The supporting Porsche Club G.B history folder is HUGE with 20 previous MOTs confirming her mileage, previous Tax Discs, a full dealer pack including all supplemententary booklets and service book detailing 15 service stamps (ALL Porsche or Porsche Independents) and a further 9 stamps for fluid / belt / condition checks. We have also carried out a recent oil, filter, plugs service and although the car has done little mileage over the last few years we have also changed the timing / balance shaft belts in accordance with the Porsche service schedule. She has previously had a tracker fitted (requires reactivation) is fitted with an immobiliser and the folder contains invoices in excess of £10k! She comes with 2 Keys, Immobiliser fobs and the original Valet Key (nearly always lost).
Without doubt one of the best presented Porsche 944 S2 3.0 Cabriolets and coming with the all important supporting history file this car looks stunning with the hood up or down and is ready to enjoy the summer months either cruising to the south of France or enjoying local outings or being displayed at classic car shows.

I recently decided to sell my newly restored E-type Jaguar to make way for another project. However, I did not want the hassle of having to deal with timewasters and tyre kickers and so decided to try a commission sale with Absolute Classic Cars (ACC). I had met Mark a few years back at a classic car meet at when he still had his Volvo P1800 and was impressed by his classic car knowledge and that he was generous with his time in talking to a stranger. Roll forward to the present day and after talking to Mark about ACC handling the sale of my car, I was convinced that they were the right people for the task.
Within a few days they had arranged to collect the car, fully prepared it, took photographs and designed the advert, with the me offering them some additional information, they even allowed me to review the advert before sending it 'live'.
ACC handled all interaction with interested parties, looked after viewings, test drives and negotiated a cracking price. They then took care of the financials and admin, prepped the car for delivery and delivered the car to the new owner in London.
I have no hesitation in recommending Absolute Classic Cars to anyone thinking of buying or selling a classic car - A trouble free, no hassle experience.
