Description

Beautifully restored and finished to an exceptionally high standard, Absolute Classic Cars are delighted to offer this small rear window 1964 Volkswagen Beetle 1200.

Having been owned by the previous keeper for a number of years the Beetle has been completely stripped to a bare rolling chassis and a comprehensive restoration undertaken with works including:

Body - Completely taken back to bare metal, with wings, doors, bonnet all removed to allow thorough inspection and remedial repairs carried out as required. Floor pans taken back to bare metal and repainted black. The body has then been professionally repainted in Volkswagen L360 Sea Blue with as much care given to the interior / underside as on the main body itself and when re-assembly took place the Beetle was fitted with all new window, door, deck and bonnet rubbers.

Suspension - All components stripped and cleaned. Larger items have then been painted / powder-coated before being built back up with all new bushes, ball-joints, tie-rod ends, bearings etc.

Brakes - fully stripped and overhauled, all new brake lines installed.

Lighting - All lens, chrome bezels and wiring have all been replaced and are in as-new condition.

Chrome / Brightwork - Again all new bumpers, side trim, window inserts etc are new. The only chrome original to the car is that of the front quarter windows with this showing some minor pitting.

Mechanical - We are led to believe that the engine / gearbox are correct to the car. Since coming to us we have carried out a full service, including oil, filters, plugs, points, condenser and we have also fitted a newly refurbished (and to original specification) Solex 28 PICT/1 Carburetor. The Beetle has since been professionally tuned and with a focus on maintaining originality, it is fair to say the 40bhp motor suits a more leisurely drive but we are delighted with how well the 1200 engine and gearbox perform.

Interior - Prior to coming to Absolute Classic Cars the Beetle was really let down by a poor quality interior, cheap carpets and badly fitting after-market seat covers. With an eye for detail and in order to lift the Bettle to what we feel is a 'show quality' car we then completely stripped the interior. She now has an original perforated head-lining fitted, the badly worn steering wheel has been refurbished, we have fitted a bespoke Sisal carpet set with underfelt to reduce road noise and the seats / door cards have both been fully retrimmed in slate / off-white and we have even fitted a removable parcel shelf behind the rear seat. The ivory switch gear all remains in good working order and the car has an original Blaupunkt radio fitted (though this is purely for show, but could be refurbished to working condition).

She comes with two sets of keys, valid MOT, recent receipts, an Autopress Workshop Manual and currently shows a recorded 64100 miles. In the various journeys we've taken her on, this beautiful '64 Beetle has received so many positive comments; people waving and great big smiles from young and old alike. Ready to find a new home this '64 Beetle is an absolute gem.

"After recently selling my Jaguar E-Type Series II Roadster I found myself spending hours searching for a suitable replacement. With so many years being the owner of this stylish ‘Cat’ the search went on day and night, often with a glass of Scotlands finest whiskey in hand! I began working through my ‘wish list’ and couldn’t believe my luck when I stumbled across the Absolute Classic Cars website. A Volvo 1800S was clearly on my radar and Marks privately owned classic was something unreal, the car looked truly stunning.

I instantly called Mark (who speaks great German) and told him I would be on the next available plane. At 2am I booked the flight, organised a rental car and shortly afterwards had boarded a flight to the UK and finally made it to Marks house with enough light left in an otherwise typical grey winters day. Mark opened his garage and rolled out his classic, still wearing its cover, my heart in overdrive and head spinning! Mark removed the cover and there in front me…..every word Mark had used far exceeded my expectations, the exterior colour complimented the shape of the car perfectly, it simply could not be surpassed, the interior was the icing on the cake and the car was in absolutely fantastic order…I needed to buy this car as much as I needed to breath!

The personal touch, the thought of the smallest details that went into restoring this car from a barn-find car to an absolute classic winner just shows the amount of expertise and knowledge about design and how things work to elevate a good car into something very special.

If you are looking for the personal touch paired with knowledge about historic cars, then Absolute Classic Cars is the only way to go."
