Volkswagen Beetle - SOLD
1964 Volkswagen Beetle 1200
Subject to comprehensive restoration
Bespoke interior retrim
Original 1192cc, 4speed
Beautifully restored and finished to an exceptional, show-wining standard, Absolute Classic Cars are delighted to offer this stunning small rear window 1964 Volkswagen Beetle 1200.
Having been owned by a previous keeper for a number of years the Beetle has been completely stripped to a bare rolling chassis and subject to detailed and comprehensive restoration, with works including:
Body - Completely taken back to bare metal, with wings, doors, bonnet all removed to allow thorough inspection and remedial repairs carried out as required. Floor pans taken back to bare metal and repainted black. The body has then been professionally repainted in Volkswagen L360 Sea Blue with as much care given to the interior / underside as on the main body itself and when re-assembly took place the Beetle was fitted with all new wing, window, door, deck and bonnet rubbers.
Suspension / Brakes / Wheels - All components were stripped and cleaned. Larger items have then been painted / powder-coated before being built back up with all new bushes, ball-joints, tie-rod ends, bearings etc. The brakes have been fully overhauled and all new brake lines installed and the original wheels have been shot-blasted, painted and fitted with tires and chrome hubcaps.
Lighting / Electrics - All lens, chrome bezels and wiring have all been replaced and are in as-new condition.
Chrome / Brightwork - Again all new bumpers, side trim, mirrors, light lens surrounds, window inserts etc are new. The only chrome original to the car is that of the front quarter windows with this showing some minor pitting.
Mechanical - We are led to believe that the engine / gearbox are original to the car. Since coming to us we have carried out a full service, including oil, filters, plugs, points, condenser, we have also fitted a new exhaust and in order to maintain her originality we've fitted a newly refurbished (original spec) Solex 28 PICT/1 Carburetor. The Beetle has since been professionally tuned and it is fair to say the 40bhp motor suits a more leisurely drive but we are delighted with how well the 1200 engine and gearbox perform. We've also inspected the heater exchangers, replaced the exchanger to body flexi-hoses, fitted new lever mechanisms and adjusted the system accordingly.
Interior - Prior to coming to Absolute Classic Cars, the Beetle was really let down by a poor quality interior, cheap carpets and badly fitting after-market seat covers; with an eye for detail and in order to lift the Bettle to what we feel is a 'show quality' car we then completely stripped the interior. She now has an original perforated head-lining fitted, the badly worn steering wheel has been refurbished, we have fitted a bespoke sisal carpet set with new underfelt to reduce road noise and the seats / door cards have both been fully retrimmed in slate / off-white and we have even fitted a removable parcel shelf behind the rear seat, a new pair of sun-visors and a set of semi-tailored over mats. The ivory switch gear all remains in good working order and the car has an original Blaupunkt radio fitted (though this is purely for show, but could be refurbished to working condition, potentially with phone connectivity).
She comes with two sets of keys, valid MOT (Nov 2018), recent receipts, an Autopress Workshop Manual and currently shows a recorded 64700 miles. In the various journeys we've taken her on, this beautiful '64 Beetle has received so many positive comments; people waving and great big smiles from young and old alike. Ready to find a new home this '64 Beetle is an absolute gem.

Earlier this year (2018) I had the pleasure of doing business with Mark and Carl at Absolute Classic Cars (ACC) as they had an amazingly rare low mileage 1989 Porsche 911 SSE Coupe for sale, or as I have come to call her, 'The Mona Lisa'.
Knowing how rare this model is and seeing a few examples for sale at Porsche specialists / established classic dealers around the UK I took my time to see all the cars in market place and after visiting the ACC premises a few times, talking to them at length at how they would prepare the car, what they could do for me and getting a 'feel' for them and their business I knew Absolute Classic Cars were the right people.
In the weeks leading up to delivery I spoke with Mark on an almost daily basis; updates on the detailed Porsche specialist service they'd arranged, refurbishment of the Fuchs alloys to factory 'as new' condition, fitting new Continental tyres, refurbishment of the fan/housing, detailed wax-oil and so. When she was finally ready Mark and Carl delivered the car in person within their fully enclosed trailer and once unloaded, joining other classics in my collection they then covered her with a tailored car cover they arranged for me.
A few days after the delivery I was advised by my insurance company that due to the value of the car would need a Tracker fitted and on phoning Mark for some advise, he suggested that they might be able to help further. Less than 24hrs later they had arranged for an approved specialist to make the journey from Lincoln to my home (250 mile round trip) and I could rest easy knowing that everything was sorted.
As an classic car enthusiast, many years the senior of Mark and Carl, I have meet many dealers in my time and for the most they are just that, dealers. In approaching Mark and Carl at Absolute Classic Cars it is a real pleasure to have meet and dealt with two gents whose passion happens to be their business; their knowledge, enthusiasm, detailed professional approach sets them apart and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone considering a classic car purchase.
